Reach of Cancer Around the World

The infographic on this page is from the World Health Organization and shows the leading types of cancer around the world along with their respective death rates. While statistics like these may be considered morbid by some, it’s important to understand the reach cancer has on so many people worldwide.

While many of us may not ever get cancer, it’s safe to say that almost all of us know somebody who is now, or has previously battled some form of cancer. There are more than 100 types of cancer and it can strike any part of the body.

Every year, 7.4 million people die from cancer, and it is the leading cause of death worldwide.

There is hope, as more than 30% of cancer can be prevented through a healthy diet, physical activity and exercise, and not smoking or using tobacco products. Using sunscreen and limiting time outdoors in the sun is a good way to protect from skin cancer.

Furthermore, nearly a third of cancers can be cured from early detection and proper treatment.

Schedule regular checkups with your doctor and be candid about any type of cancer that runs in your family history. If not for yourself, do it for your loved ones.
